EXTRAS
"TO SIR WITH LUV"

'To Sir With Love' has been a fan favorite in Luvplanet's live show through the years. Recognized for exclusively performing original songs, 'To Sir' is one of the only covers Luvplanet has played live. Appearing at the end of Disc 2 on 2020's 'Something Good' release as a surprise hidden track, this #1 hit from the 1967 Sidney Poitier film was originally sung by British pop singer 'Lulu' (aka Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie). The Scottish 'Lulu' gained stardom in Britain with a Top Ten version of the classic, "Shout". The film is about an aspiring engineer, Mark Thackery (Sidney Poitier) who's stuck in a dead end job teaching a class full of rebellious, low class kids at a secondary school in London. Lulu plays the sassy 'Ms. Peg'. The song was penned by Don Black & Marc London who wrote many hits for films of the time. The infectious melodic theme runs throughout the film.

Luvplanet's Mark McGee says "As a kid I was exposed to many classic movies that my Father watched year after year. 'To Sir' was always a deeply moving story for me. I was a  rebellious kid and I remember feeling a connection to these troubled youngsters and thought, I'm just like them and in the end everything worked out, so I guess I'll be ok too. It offered me a sense of hopefulness at a time when I needed it the most and along with other defining moments would help to fuel my burning desire to follow my own dreams and pursuits in Music which at that time seemed a massive mountain to climb!

One day when talking with Nicole about classic songs, I played it for her and she said, "Let's cover it". We've done the full length version with three verses which only appears in the middle of the movie during the museum outing scenes. The hit single release only included two verses. It's really a fun song to play and for me it brings back fond memories of my Dad which is why it still rings true!

LYRICS
(Words and Music by Don Black & Marc London © 1967)

Those school girl days of telling tales and biting nails are gone,
But in my mind I know they will still live on and on,
But how do you thank someone who has taken you from crayons to perfume.
It isn't easy but I'll try

If you wanted the sky I'd write across the sky in letters
that would soar a thousand feet high,
To Sir, With Love.

Those awkward years, have hurried by why did they fly away.
Why is it Sir children grow up to be people one day,
What takes the place of climbing trees and dirty knees in the world outside?
What is there for you I can buy?

If you wanted the world I'd surround it with a wall I'd scrall
These words with letters ten feet tall,
To Sir, With Love.

The time has come, for closing books and long last looks must end,
And as I leave I know that I am leaving my best friend,
A friend who taught me right from wrong, and weak from strong.
That's a lot to learn.
What can I give you in return?

If you wanted the sky I'd write across the sky
If you wanted the world I'd surround it with a wall
If you wanted the moon I would try to make a start

If you wanted the sky
If you wanted the world
If you wanted the moon

If you wanted to try

"DON'T TAKE ME FOR A LOSER"

from the 2004 release -

GIVE US MOORE!

A GARY MOORE TRIBUTE
(Lion Music)

In 2004 Luvplanet was contacted by Lion Music in Europe and asked if we'd like to contribute a track to an upcoming Gary Moore Tribute cd. Being that Gary was one of Mark's big influences, the band quickly took them up n the the opportunity. When asked what song we'd like to do, the answer was simple, 'Don't Take Me For A Loser'! This was the first Gary Moore song Mark ever heard back in 1983 that got him hooked! With Mark singing lead vocals on this track he was able to pay homage to a hero! It was recorded and mixed all in one afternoon by Brad Barth at Audio Voyage Studios in Livermore, CA. This was long before Gary's untimely passing and in retrospect, the band is very happy to have been a part of this release. Gary's music and influence as a singer/guitarist/songwriter is massive and continues to grow!

LYRICS

(Words and Music by Gary Moore)

Baby, I used to be the kind anyone could burn.
But now I've left those days behind and it's time for the wheel to turn.
Baby, I used to be so easy to take for a ride.
But now I've learned to play the game and my eyes are always open wide.

I was the one who would listen to you, when you handed me all of your lies

(all of your lies)
But those days have gone, and it's time you caught on,
'Cause this time nothin's gonna get by.

Don't take me for a loser.
Don't take me for a loser, 'cause I'm gonna win.
Don't take me for a fool, baby.
'Cause it would take a fool to lose you again.

Baby, you used to be the one who could run around.
But now my heart is in my head and nothing you have said can pull me down.
One day, I told you everything would come back on you.
And now you've had all your chances and your one night romances are through.

I was the one who would listen to you when you handed me all of your lies

(all of your lies).
But those days have gone, and it's time you caught on,
'Cause this time nothin's gonna get by.

Don't take me for a loser.
Don't take me for a loser, 'cause I'm gonna win.
Don't take me for a fool, baby.
'Cause it would take a fool to lose you again.

I was the one who would listen to you,
When you handed me all of your lies (all of your lies).
But those days have gone, and it's time you caught on,
'Cause this time nothin's gonna get by.

Don't take me for a loser.
Don't take me for a loser, 'cause I'm gonna win.
Don't take me for a fool, baby.
'Cause it would take a fool to lose you again.

I was the one who would listen to you, When you handed me all of your lies (all of your lies). But those days have gone, and it's time you caught on, 'Cause this time nothin's gonna get by.

Don't take me for a loser.
Don't take me for a loser, 'cause I'm gonna win.
Don't take me for a fool, baby.
'Cause it would take a fool to lose you again.
